Winter Solstice

The winter solstice signifies magic for some, the beginning of festivities for others or just a regular day for most.

In my exploration of different cultures I’ve been intrigued to see how people from different regions interpret the shortest day.

Is it magical? Does the solstice determine how the rest of your year plays out? Or, is it arbitrary?

Many cultures look at the winter solstice as a new beginning. Rebirth? Hmmm, doesn’t that sound familiar? There are holidays, festivals, gatherings or rituals celebrated around that time throughout the world. Is it a new beginning for you?

New Year Resolutions seem very similar to the practices of ancient times. Even Christmas or Christ’s Mass, one of the most popular Christian celebrations, has its roots in the winter solstice.

So is it magical? In some cultures the winter solstice represented a return to balance and harmony. What does it mean to you?

For some, they will be meditating focusing on the power/energy that is present. For others, they will be shopping. And for the rest, this will be a regular day.

However you celebrate the solstice, I wish you peace, love and light.
